"The casting director spotted Vahina on a beach at Marseilles. I had her do some screen tests which were incredible. She was thirteen and a half and knew how to act anything. She had a rare beauty, the real character of a girl from the South, and she was also a dancer for the Marseilles Opera. We had already seen 7000 girls and then she showed up, like an extraordinary reward for our work..."

- director Manuel Pradel

Vahina Giocante made her film debut in the 1997 release Marie Baie des Anges. Vahina plays the lead role of Marie, a seductive and insolent15 year old girl in the South of France who meets a sullen street kid named Orso (played by Frederic Malgras). The two are portrayed as wounded, fallen angels; and the performance by both Vahina and Frederic are disturbingly dark and sensual. Marie Baie des Anges provides a provocative look at the freedom and vitality of youth along the beaches of the Riviera.
